Breaking New: Several People Trapped As Building Under Construction Collapsed

Rescue operations are underway after a building under construction collapsed in the Oloolua area, leaving four people trapped beneath the rubble as emergency teams race against time to save them.

The incident occurred in the Ole Nairi section of Oloolua, where the partially completed structure suddenly gave way during ongoing construction work.

Eyewitnesses say the collapse happened without warning, sending dust and debris into the air as workers and nearby residents rushed to safety.

According to initial reports from the scene, the building’s section crumbled while workers were still inside or near the structure.

The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been confirmed, but authorities have launched preliminary investigations into possible structural weaknesses or construction safety lapses.

Rescue teams, including county emergency responders and local volunteers, immediately moved to the site after the alarm was raised.

Heavy machinery and manual rescue efforts are being used to remove debris as rescuers carefully search for signs of life beneath the rubble.

Speaking from the scene, Kombo, one of the officials coordinating the operation, confirmed that efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue the trapped individuals.

“We’re currently trying to rescue those trapped,” he said, noting that the situation remains delicate as teams work cautiously to avoid further collapse while digging through unstable materials.

Residents in the area gathered at a safe distance, watching anxiously as rescue teams continued their efforts.

Some described hearing a loud cracking sound moments before the structure came down, followed by a cloud of dust and panic among workers and passersby.

“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang, then everything went silent for a moment before people started screaming,” said one witness. “We ran to help, but the dust was too thick and we could not see anything clearly.”

Local authorities have since cordoned off the area to prevent further accidents and to allow rescue operations to continue without interruption. Security personnel have also been deployed to manage crowds and ensure safety at the scene.

The collapse has once again raised concerns about construction standards and safety compliance in rapidly growing residential and commercial areas.

In recent years, Kenya has witnessed several similar incidents involving buildings under construction, often linked to poor workmanship, weak supervision, or failure to follow approved building plans.

Experts in the construction industry have repeatedly warned that cutting corners in building materials and ignoring engineering guidelines can lead to dangerous consequences.

They stress that every structure, regardless of size, must undergo proper inspection at different stages of construction to ensure safety.

As rescue efforts continue in Oloolua, families of the trapped workers are waiting anxiously for updates. Some have gathered near the site, hoping for good news as emergency teams work through the debris.

Medical personnel have also been stationed nearby to attend to any survivors once they are pulled out. Ambulances remain on standby as authorities prepare for possible injuries ranging from fractures to severe trauma.

County officials are expected to give a detailed update once the rescue operation progresses further.

Meanwhile, investigations into the cause of the collapse are likely to begin immediately after the site is secured.

For now, the focus remains on saving the four people believed to be trapped under the collapsed structure.

The operation continues under challenging conditions, with rescuers working carefully in hopes of finding survivors alive.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the Oloolua community, serving as another painful reminder of the importance of strict safety measures in the construction sector.
