Kega Details Terrifying Escape As Chaos Rocks Ol Kalou Political Event

Former Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has spoken publicly about a frightening incident in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County, describing how he narrowly escaped what he termed a life-threatening attack during a political engagement.

Speaking after the incident, Kega said the events unfolded rapidly, leaving him and members of his team scrambling for safety as chaos erupted. Recounting the ordeal, the former legislator said he genuinely believed his life was in danger.

"I saw death with my own eyes," Kega said, adding that the experience was among the most terrifying moments of his political career.

He expressed gratitude that he escaped unharmed despite the tense situation, which he said could have ended tragically.

According to Kega, he had attended a public event in Ol Kalou when the atmosphere suddenly changed. He alleged that a group of individuals became hostile, forcing him and his supporters to seek refuge as tensions escalated.

He claimed that the confrontation quickly intensified, prompting fears of widespread violence.

The former MP said security officers and members of his entourage acted swiftly to remove him from the scene before the situation worsened.

He credited their quick response with ensuring his safety and preventing injuries among those accompanying him.

Witnesses reported confusion as people fled the area after the disturbance began. Videos and photographs circulating on social media appeared to show crowds running in different directions, although the circumstances leading to the confrontation remained unclear. Authorities had not immediately provided a comprehensive account of the incident.

Kega condemned political violence, saying no leader or citizen should face intimidation because of their political beliefs or affiliations.

He urged leaders across the political divide to promote peaceful engagement and respect for differing opinions, especially as political activities continue to intensify in various parts of the country.

He also called on security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly and identify those responsible for any acts of violence or destruction.

According to Kega, accountability is essential in preventing similar occurrences during future political gatherings.

The incident has sparked renewed debate over security at political events in Kenya. Analysts note that public rallies and meetings often attract large crowds with competing political interests, making effective crowd management and adequate security arrangements essential.

Political observers have warned that confrontations at campaign-related events can undermine democratic participation by discouraging leaders and citizens from engaging freely in political activities.

They argue that maintaining peace during public gatherings is critical to protecting constitutional rights, including freedom of expression and assembly.

Leaders from different political camps have continued to call for restraint, urging supporters to avoid violence regardless of political differences.

Many have emphasized that political competition should be conducted through dialogue, persuasion, and respect for the rule of law rather than intimidation or physical confrontation.

Civil society organizations have also reiterated the need for peaceful political engagement, warning that isolated incidents of violence can quickly escalate if not addressed promptly.

They have encouraged political parties to educate their supporters on peaceful conduct and to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in maintaining order during public events.

Security experts say early intervention by police and event organizers can significantly reduce the likelihood of violence at political gatherings.

They recommend proper planning, coordination with local authorities, and clear communication between organizers and security personnel to ensure the safety of participants.

As investigations continue, attention is expected to focus on establishing the sequence of events that led to the confrontation in Ol Kalou.

Authorities are also likely to review available evidence, including witness statements and video recordings, to determine whether any criminal offences were committed.

For Kega, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks that can accompany political life. While expressing relief at having escaped safely, he maintained that no democratic society should tolerate violence as a means of resolving political disagreements.

He called on all stakeholders to uphold peace, respect the law, and ensure that political competition remains peaceful, inclusive, and focused on addressing the needs of the Kenyan people.
