The Lawyers’ Warning: Why LSK Is Taking The Fight To The Streets on Friday

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has intensified calls for justice and accountability following the deaths of advocates, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

The lawyers’ body has also announced a nationwide protest scheduled for Friday, as members of the legal profession seek answers and stronger guarantees for their safety.

LSK officials said the deaths of advocates have raised serious concerns about the security of lawyers and the broader state of the rule of law in the country.

They argued that advocates play a crucial role in defending constitutional rights, representing vulnerable individuals, and ensuring access to justice, making their protection a matter of national importance.

The society maintained that every reported death involving a member of the legal profession must be investigated independently, transparently, and without delay.

According to LSK, the failure to provide clear answers risks undermining public confidence in institutions responsible for protecting citizens and delivering justice.

The planned protest on Friday is expected to bring together lawyers from across the country in a unified call for accountability.

The demonstration will serve as a platform for advocates to express their concerns over what they describe as growing threats facing members of the profession.

LSK leaders have urged advocates to participate peacefully while maintaining that the protest is necessary to draw attention to the challenges facing lawyers.

They emphasized that the action is not only about individual cases but also about defending the independence of the legal profession and protecting the principles of justice.

The deaths of advocates have sparked concern among members of the legal community, with many questioning whether enough is being done to protect lawyers who handle sensitive cases.

Advocates often work on matters involving powerful individuals, public interest issues, and disputes that can attract significant attention, making security a major concern.

LSK officials said lawyers should be able to perform their professional duties without intimidation, threats, or fear.

They called on investigative agencies to act swiftly and ensure that those responsible for any unlawful acts are identified and prosecuted.

The society also highlighted the wider consequences of failing to protect advocates. Lawyers are central to the justice system because they help citizens seek legal remedies, challenge violations, and ensure that government institutions remain accountable.

Any threat against advocates, LSK argued, affects not only the profession but also ordinary citizens who depend on legal representation.

The announcement of the protest has received attention from different sections of society, with human rights groups and legal professionals emphasizing the importance of safeguarding those who defend justice.

Many have echoed calls for stronger measures to protect lawyers and other professionals involved in upholding constitutional rights.

As Friday’s protest approaches, pressure is mounting on authorities to address the concerns raised by the LSK.

The society has called for open communication, credible investigations, and concrete measures to prevent further incidents involving advocates.

The lawyers’ body has maintained that accountability remains the foundation of a fair justice system.

Without proper investigations and protection for legal professionals, LSK warned that public trust in institutions could be affected.

For advocates across Kenya, the planned protest represents a demand for answers and a call for action.

They say protecting lawyers is not simply a matter concerning the legal profession but a responsibility tied to the protection of democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.

As the legal community prepares to take to the streets on Friday, all eyes will be on the government’s response and whether the concerns raised by LSK will lead to meaningful action.
