Samidoh Makes A Bold Move Ahead Of 2027—What He Is Now Planning For Ol Joro Orok

Popular Mugithi musician Samuel Muchoki Ndirangu, popularly known as Samidoh, has officially declared his intention to contest the Ol Joro Orok parliamentary seat in Nyandarua County in the 2027 General Election.

The announcement marks a major shift for the celebrated entertainer, who is now seeking to move from the music stage into elective politics.

In a detailed message addressed to residents of Nyandarua, Samidoh said his decision was not based on his fame or popularity as a musician. Instead, he said his desire to seek the seat was driven by his personal connection to Ol Joro Orok and his understanding of the challenges facing ordinary residents.

The musician described the constituency as his home, saying his journey began there and that his experiences growing up in the area had shaped his ambitions.

He explained that he wanted to participate directly in leadership and decision-making rather than simply speaking about change through his music.

Samidoh also opened up about his difficult childhood, revealing that he was orphaned at a young age. According to him, the challenges he encountered while growing up taught him the importance of determination, faith and hard work.

He said his personal journey from hardship to success had given him an understanding of the struggles experienced by many families in the constituency.

Before becoming one of Kenya's best-known Mugithi musicians, Samidoh served in the Kenya Police Service.

His career in music later took him across the country and abroad, where he performed for audiences and interacted with people from different communities.

He argued that his experiences outside politics had also exposed him to issues affecting ordinary Kenyans. However, he maintained that he was not seeking political office simply because he was a celebrity.

Samidoh said that speaking about social and economic challenges through music was no longer enough for him. He expressed a desire to be part of the institutions where laws are made, public resources are managed and decisions affecting citizens are reached.

Education emerged as one of the major issues in his proposed agenda. Samidoh said he wants an Ol Joro Orok where children do not miss school because their families cannot meet education-related expenses.

He also proposed measures aimed at reducing the financial burden placed on parents of children attending day schools.

His proposals include having families contribute towards food and other agreed needs as the government gradually works towards reducing school fees.

Youth empowerment and infrastructure are also expected to form part of his political agenda. Earlier reports indicated that Samidoh had been increasingly involved in discussions around youth participation and voter registration as he prepared to enter the political arena.

His political ambitions had been the subject of speculation for several months. In March 2026, Samidoh began openly hinting at a possible parliamentary bid, with reports linking him to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).

He also encouraged residents to register as voters, signalling that his interest in politics was becoming more serious.

His formal declaration now places him among the politicians expected to compete for the Ol Joro Orok seat in the 2027 elections.

The entry of a high-profile musician is likely to attract considerable attention, particularly because of Samidoh's large following and popularity within the Mugithi music scene.

However, his celebrity status could also present challenges. While popularity can help a candidate connect with voters, political campaigns require more than public recognition.

Samidoh will have to convince residents that his experience and proposed policies can translate into effective representation.

As the 2027 elections approach, the political contest in Ol Joro Orok is expected to become increasingly competitive.

Samidoh's decision has already added a new dimension to the race, bringing together entertainment, public service and electoral politics.

For now, the musician is preparing to exchange the microphone for the political platform, seeking to persuade the people of his home constituency that his journey from hardship, policing and music has prepared him for another chapter — this time as their representative in Parliament.
